The birth of high-quality steel cannot be separated from carburizers - they can accurately supplement the carbon elements lost by molten iron, and further divide the battlefield into four categories: wood, coal, coke, and graphite. From 90% carbon content calcined coal to 99.5% graphit petroleum coke, each is an invisible champion of smelting technology.

Function and Classification of Carbon Raiser

Carbonizer, as a key auxiliary material in the steelmaking and casting industries, is mainly used to increase carbon content and remove impurities. In the process of steel smelting, it is widely used to compensate for the loss of carbon during steel smelting. Due to the influence of smelting time, insulation time, and overheating time, the carbon element in the molten iron will gradually decrease, resulting in a carbon content lower than the theoretical value. In order to achieve the expected refining effect, carbon additives must be added to adjust the carbon content of the steel, ensuring the production of high-quality steel.

Carbonizing agents can be divided into wood based carbonization agents(Not application in Xingshi Carbon), coal based , coke carbonization agents, and graphite carbonization agents according to different production materials

Recarburizer details

■  Coal based carbon additive

This type of carbonization agent includes ordinary calcined coal, asphalt coke, and metallurgical coke carbonization agents, with a wide range of applications, high carbon content, and tight structure.

✅Common calcined coal carbonization agent: This carbonization agent is made from low ash, low sulfur clean anthracite as raw material, and is mainly produced in Ningxia and Inner Mongolia after high-temperature calcination at about 1250 ℃. Its carbon content is usually in the range of 90-93%, mainly suitable for steelmaking enterprises, and some casting enterprises also use it for the manufacturing of gray cast iron. Due to the compact structure of carbon molecules, they absorb heat slowly during use, but their effect is long-lasting.

✅Pitch coke recarburizer: It is made from by-products of coal tar hydrogenation to produce oil, and has the characteristics of high carbon, low sulfur, and low nitrogen. Its carbon content is as high as 96-99.5%, with low volatile matter, compact structure, relatively high particle mechanical strength and wear resistance, and easy graphitization.

✅Metallurgical coke carbonization agent: This carbonization agent is made from coking coal as raw material and is usually used in blast furnace smelting. In addition to being used in the smelting process, it is also commonly used for carbonization of metal furnace materials.

Coke based carbon additive

Including calcined coke, graphitized petroleum coke, and semi graph itized petroleum coke carbonization agents, with high carbon content, high density, low sulfur content, and wide market applications.

✅Calcined petroleum coke: obtained by calcining low sulfur petroleum coke at a high temperature of 1300-1500 degrees Celsius to remove moisture, volatile matter, and impurities. Its fixed carbon content is stable at around 98.5%, sulfur content is usually less than 0.5% or 1%, density is tight and not easy to decompose, and the usage time is moderate. Mainly produced in Shandong, Liaoning, Tianjin and other places. The price and supply advantages make it widely used in the market.

✅ Graphitic petroleum coke carbon raiser: obtained by high-temperature treatment of petroleum coke at 3000 degrees Celsius in a graphitization smelting furnace. It has the characteristics of rapid absorption, high carbon and low sulfur, with a carbon content of 98-99% and a sulfur content of less than 0.05% or 0.03%. Mainly produced in Inner Mongolia, Jiangsu, Sichuan and other places, it can also come from cutting waste of graphite electrodes, which have undergone graphitization treatment and can be used as carbon enhancers.

✅ Semi-graphitized petroleum coke Carbon additive: Its graphitization temperature is lower than that of graphitized carbonization agent, with a carbon content greater than 99.5% and a slightly higher sulfur content, usually below 0.3%.

■Graphite based carbon additive

Including Amorphous graphite and natural graphite carburizer, with high carbon content, suitable for steelmaking plants; Composite carbonization agents are made by mixing multiple materials.

✅Amorphous graphite carbonization agent: This is a form of application of soil like graphite in steel smelting or casting processes. Mainly produced in Hunan, it is directly made from earthy graphite powder, with a carbon content usually between 75-80%, but the carbon content of the product can be increased through purification.

✅Natural graphite carbonization agent: mainly composed of flake graphite, with a carbon content range of 65-99%, but relatively low stability, so it is mainly suitable for steel mills.

✅Composite material carbonization agent: This carbonization agent is made by mixing waste materials such as graphite powder, coke powder, and petroleum coke. By adding different binders, it can be compressed into stick like particles. Its carbon content is roughly between 93-97%, but its sulfur content fluctuates greatly, usually between 0.09-0.7%. It can also be made from waste graphite products
